If you’re thinking of throwing a tea party or hosting a high tea, incorporating a Mad Hatter/Alice in Wonderland flavour to your event can make your event even more fun and memorable. The Mad Hatter theme is quite popular at the moment so with just a little research and creativity you can achieve an exciting little party that captures the slightly mad and whacky feel of Alice in Wonderland. This is how we’d throw a Mad Hatter’s ‘Unbirthday’ Tea Party using the high calibre of businesses listed on Party Affairs.
Wonderland Catering Creations
Wonderland Catering Creations is an incredible catering company based in Perth and it just so happens to be Alice in Wonderland themed! Wonderland Catering Creations aims to create food that’s innovative, tastes amazing and looks cute. We adore their little canapés and tasty bite-sized treats.
In keeping with its Alice in Wonderland theme is their Mad Hatter High Tea catering option, which of course would be perfect for a Mad Hatter’s High Tea. For a price of $80 per person your guests will be treated to a delightful selection of sweet and savoury high tea treats including; caramelised onion tarts, smoked salmon and cucumber with dill cream finger sandwiches, pancetta and parmesan quiches, lemonade scones with jam and cream, mini berry cheesecakes and many more delicious little treats. We love these peanut butter “EAT ME” cookies, just like the cookie Alice ate when she first enters Wonderland.
Tea Party Florals
This doesn’t exclusively apply to Mad Hatter Tea Parties, but generally flowers and tea parties go hand in hand. Hip & Hooray is an Australian online party supplies store and they have an incredible selection of floral-print party goods. We adore their matching Floral Paper tableware selection, which includes favour bags if you want to give your guests goodie bags to take home leftovers.
.Hip & Hooray also stocks some pretty convincing fake Peony Bouquets. These fake flowers are gorgeous, cost effective and allow you to plan ahead rather than rushing to the florist on the day of your party.
The Truly Alice collection of tableware features gorgeous black and white Alice in Wonderland character illustrations with a bursts of bright colours. It’s a stunning collection of paper tableware that includes a paper “tea cup” (it has a pink paper handle) and saucer, dainty Truly Alice paper plates and printed napkins. Ruby Rabbit Partyware stocks the entire selection on their online store and they ship Australia wide.
Our favourite of the Truly Alice collection are the Cake Topper Picks which come in a pack of 12. They feature all of your favourite characters from the classic story including the White Rabbit, Alice, the Queen of Hearts and more. They’d be perfect on top of an iced cake, finger sandwiches or cupcakes.
Mix n’ Match
One of the key differences between a standard tea party and a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party is that the Mad Hatter was a little bit manic. Feel free to mix and match your styles, tableware and party decorations when you’re hosting a Mad Hatter’s High Tea, you want it too look a little out of the ordinary! Simply Sweet Soirees has a wonderful selection of different style doilies that you can use together, they may look like they’ll clash but that’s the look we’re going for! Simply Sweet Soirees posts Australia wide.
A Very Merry Unbirthday To You!
One of the most famous scenes from Alice in Wonderland is the Mad Hatter and his kooky friends singing “A Very Merry Unbirthday To You!” For this reason we think a Mad Hatter’s High Tea would be incomplete without an extravagant cake (whether you’re celebrating a birthday or not). A Little Bit Fancee, based in Melbourne, creates incredible, mouth-watering cakes. This is a Double-Barrel Chocolate Mud Cake with Blueberry, Chocolate Orange and Salted Caramel Macarons Drizzled with Caramel.
Alice in Wonderland Lolly Buffet
Moly Styling Mad designs and sets up custom lolly buffets, so if you have a particular theme in made she can work with you to create an impressive, themed desserts table. Moly has an amazing knack for styling her lolly buffets beautifully, she’d be able to style a beautiful high tea.
